Shelley, I caught Barley peeing inside. Don't take the following as cruelty, as I didn't damage him, this is just what I researched and found to work: I spanked his bottom hard, yelled loudly at him and kicked his butt repeatedly right out the back door. Now he doesn't pee in the house anymore. We put the bell on the back door and he rings it repeatedly when he needs to go out. Good luck in your training, and I hope you find something that works for you and jasper.
Thanks Troy! We are working on it :) The puppy potty training class I went to at Petsmart was somewhat helpful. We'll see how it works :)
No one should follow that advice. Physical force may have corrected the problem of housesooiling now but it will certainly lead to more serious behavioural problems later on. Snyone that resorts to using force to train a dog should read this FREE book which gives an insight into the dog's mind and why they behave the way they do. It is available at:

hey anonymous- please don't be worried about my dog. She's never been hit and she was potty trained just fine. We kept her close while she was training, averted the behaviour whenever we could and provided lots of positive encouragement when she did it right. Thanks for the advice and the book link (self-promotion?) but please, this is our family blog. Next time, be nice and login with your username if you want to promote your site.
